The Hebden 2009

Gavin Long reports:

Note to self - check what time the event starts before signing up.

Paul collected me at 4:00am for the 8:00am start in frozen West Yorkshire. 300 odd (and I mean odd) runners & walkers set off on a circular route around Hebden Bridge.

The fabulously scenic course comprised woods, riversides, fields and exposed moorlands and featured chunks of the Calderdale Way and the Peninne Way.

More than 4000' of climbing made the race seem longer than 22 miles, although extended stops at the well-stocked checkpoints contributed to our 5 hour race time.

It was a very friendly event with true Yorkshire hospitality. Pre-race toast & marmalade, 5 drinks stops en-route with tea, sandwiches, chocolate and cakes, plus a hot meal (pork pie and mushy peas + crumble & custard) at the end. All for an entrance fee of £ 6.00.
