Hope Moors and Tors Fell Race 20m

04 October 2009

Paul Burgess reports:

The Hope Moors and Tors is one of my favourite races. It covers 20 miles and climbs 3700 feet on its route through the Peak District National Park.

The race starts gently, as it crosses the fields from Hope to Castleton, but then heads up the steep climb through Cave Dale. After a brief respite, Mam Tor comes into view, with the lead runners already trailing up towards its impressive summit.

The race then drops down into Edale, before scrambling up the boulders of Grindsbrook Clough, and on to the Kinder plateau. From here, there are amazing views on the run around the skyline, before the drop back down into the valley.

The final section is the toughest though, with a trudge back up to Hollins Cross, and a further climb to the top of Lose Hill, before the fantastic downhill finish across the fields and back into Hope.
