Ely New Year's Eve 10k Gemma Thake reports: Firstly, congratulations to everyone with a PB and the other excellent times at the Ely New Year's Eve 10k. There was a strong turnout from Striders, with 10 runners in a field of over 500. Overall, this race is a fast, flat route - entirely on tarmac, apart from the last few hundred metres, which was on frozen sports field. Quite a distance to travel for a 'local' 10k, but definitely one with PB potential, as the results suggest. There was one slight incline at approx. 8km, although being out in the Fens, I wouldn't really describe this as a hill! At this point, we were met by a bagpiper playing to encourage us up the slope! A special mention should go to Fiona Halls as 2nd FV35 and Fiona Tideswell for her outstanding time (and second PB of the week, I believe!) Well done all. |
