Great Wishford 10k Kate Holden reports: This was the first time this event had been held, run in aid of the local primary school. My nephews asked me to run to raise money for their school, and then very generously showed their support by going off and playing football!!! The setting: the picturesque Wylye valley near Salisbury. The route: a tough off-road course that ascended 200m over the first 3K then followed undulating trails and rides through Grovely Wood before a final hair-raising descent back into the village. For a first event the race was very well organised and marshalled with almost 100 runners taking part. If you want a challenging race and a weekend away in a lovely part of the country then I would definitely recommend this one. Its a good event for families with a 3k fun run as well. I was extremely pleased with my 4th place, as this was the toughest 10k I have ever done (my brother-in-law was less happy as he had bet on me to win!). For the record the first guy home finished in an eye-popping 36:22!!!! Hopefully the race will be run again next year. |
